Dr. Leo T.H. Lee, GBS, LLD, JP, a native of Zhongshan in the Guangdong province of China, started his business in Hong Kong in the early 1950s. In 1952 he established Tung Tai Trading Corporation Limited for trading, including import of electrical appliances and electronic equipment, and export of Chinese products and manufactured products from Hong Kong. His business expanded quickly and very soon other companies of the Tung Tai Group were also established: Tung Tai Finance Ltd, Tung Tai Securities Co Ltd, Tung Tai Realty Ltd, Tung Tai Finance & Investment Holdings Ltd, Tung Tai Asset Management Ltd, Tung Tai Futures Ltd, etc. At present, Mr Lee is Chairman of the Tung Tai Group of Companies, Grand Dynasty (Group) Ltd and Beijing Ke Guan Property Development Co Ltd; a Director of SPS Group Ltd, and Restaurant Yagiu Ltd. He is a Director of a number of publicly listed companies in Hong Kong, including Asia Financial Holdings Ltd, Beijing Enterprises Holdings Ltd, K. Wah International Holdings Ltd, Liu Chong Hing Investment Ltd, Shell Electric Mfg. (Holdings) Co Ltd and Termbray Industries International (Holdings) Ltd. He has over 40 years business management experience in trading, finance, securities, futures and corporate management. Mr Lee is a member of a number of public service committees and heads many social service organizations, including as Chairman of the Association of Chairmen of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals; Chairman of Friends of Hong Kong Association; President of Italian Cultural Society of Hong Kong; President of Hong Kong & Kowloon Electrical Appliances Merchants Association; a member of the Advisory Board of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, a Hong Kong government appointed position; Honorary Member of the St. John Council for Hong Kong; Honorary President of the Scout Association of Hong Kong; Vice Chairman of Hong Kong Tuberculosis, Chest and Heart Diseases Association (an organization administering Grantham Hospital and Ruttonjee Hospital), Principal Permanent Honorary President of Hong Kong Federation of Zhong Shan Unions and Association Limited, etc. Mr. Lee previously served as a Member of the 7th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference; a Standing Committee Member of the 8th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference; Deputy Director of the Historical Materials Committee and the Committee's Hong Kong and Macau Region Director; an Adviser on Hong Kong Affairs by the State Council and the Xinhua News Agency, Hong Kong Branch; a member of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Preparatory Committee; a member of the Selection Committee for the setting up of the first government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the selection of members of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Provisional Legislature; a member of the Election Committee for the election of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Representatives of the 9th National People's Congress; a member of the Selection Committee in the first Legislative Council election of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. In addition, Mr. Lee also actively participated in the work of the Association For Celebration of Reunification of Hong Kong with China, such as being appointed a member of its Board of Governors, a member of its standing committee and chairman of its fundraising committee. In 1997 he was elected Vice President of the China Overseas Friendship Association. In 1998 he continued to dedicate himself to political consultation by serving as a Standing Committee Member of the 9th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and Deputy Director of the Historical Materials Committee. Mr Lee is well known to the public for his enthusiasm and active participation in the community service, particularly with respect to his voluntary involvement in youth service, charitable and medical welfare services, and promotion of promotion of trade and commerce and cultural exchange, for which he has earned much local and international acclaims. Mr Lee is also the founding Chairman of Leo Tung-Hai Lee Foundation Limited, a charitable organization established in Hong Kong. Different awards of honour were conferred on him by many governments, including Italy, France, Belgium and Britain. Recently he was awarded the honour of Gold Bauhinia Star by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government of the People's Republic of China and conferred the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws from the University of Victoria, Canada. |
